Tombstone Tuesday: David Speare Goodwin

Somehow giving a goal a name makes it more fun.  So now that I’ve recommitted to this blog, instead of the generic “Write a blog post at least once a week” goal (which obviously didn’t get me too far in the past), I’ll be using some of the daily blogging prompts at Geneabloggers.

Because the original focus of this blog was the documenting of the headstones in the cemetery of the Pownalborough Court House, I’ll begin with a “Tombstone Tuesday” post.  I’ve got lots of ideas though for “Surname Saturday”, “Census Sunday”, and several of the Monday prompts as well.

Not lost, but gone before

David Speare Goodwin, the son of Samuel Twycross Goodwin and Elizabeth Holland, was born Dec. 31, 1794, in Dresden, Maine.  He married Lydia Twycross, his second cousin, the daughter of Stephen Nymphas Twycross and Lydia Johnson (who, incidentally, were first cousins.)  Besides the headstone, David’s death date of April 19, 1879, can be found on his War of 1812 Pension Application.  I just recently discovered this pension application on Ancestry and have not followed up on it.  Yet.  Perhaps a “Military Monday” post is in my future.
